Gli scavi archeologici di Pompei hanno restituito i resti della città di Pompei antica, presso la collina di Civita, alle porte della moderna Pompei, seppellita sotto la coltre di ceneri e lapilli durante l’eruzione del Vulcano Vesuvio del 79. I ritrovamenti a seguito degli scavi iniziati per volere di Carlo III di Borbone, sono una delle migliori testimonianze della vita romana nonchè la città meglio conservata di quell’epoca.

The archaeological excavations of Pompeii have returned the remains of the ancient city of Pompeii, near the hill of Civita, at the gates of modern Pompeii, buried under the blanket of ashes and lapilli during the eruption of the Vesuvius volcano in 79. The findings following the excavations started at the behest of Charles III of Bourbon, are one of the best testimonies of Roman life as well as the best preserved city of that era.
